Santiago Island

In 2000, Santiago Island became the starting point for our work. Until 2022, CoVets (former Bons Amigos from Austria) worked closely with Bons Amigos Cabo Verde, mutually sharing knowledge and resources to strengthen local efforts and capacities in spay and neuter programmes, as well as in the daily operations of the veterinary centre. Today, Bons Amigos Cabo Verde continues to lead these initiatives, ensuring their ongoing benefits to both animals and the local community.

Sal Island

Together with Tierärztepool and a private donor, we supported and organised a first castration campaign on Sal Island in 2010 and participated in several further spay and neuter campaigns over the years, addressing the pressing issue of street animal overpopulation and in response to the critical shortage of veterinary services on the island.
Today, Tierärztepool continues to perform this essential work in close cooperation with local organisations to ensure animals receive the care they need and deserve.

Boa Vista Island

Since 2016, we occasionally joined Tierärztepool and association Nerina in spay and neuter campaigns on Boa Vista Island. The island relies on a single private veterinary centre in Sal Rei, and the tireless efforts of association Nerina to care for street animals. Today, Nerina manages a shelter, operates a veterinary centre, and remains committed to improving the welfare and management of street animal populations across the island.
